Who's your digraph?

Time for a word study freebie! (And a short post!)

This month our sound study has been focused on short vowels, digraphs, and blends.

And during this past week (for review), we've been working on various sorts to practice reading those sounds and categorizing the words that have those sounds.

Here's the word cards and sorting mats I used this week! (You can have them write the words instead of gluing them so the words can be reused.)

The students sorted the cards three ways over three days.

Day 1: Sort by short vowel sound
Day 2: Sort by digraph
Day 3: Sort by blends

I sent home the corresponding 'list making' sorting sheets (at the end of the file) as homework, but you could easily have those for independent practice during workshop/centers/etc.

Enjoy! Hope you can use it!

PS: This Saturday is the Southern California Blogger Meet-Up!!! It will be my first one, and I'm so excited to go and learn from some amazing ladies.  It's an almost THREE hour drive, but I'm doing it! Yay!!

I'm giving away 10 copies of my newest unit. It's called "Starting Point - Personal Narrative" and was designed for writing workshop with 1st and 2nd grade students. Hop on over to check it out if you'd like. :)
