Currently & Back to School Night Freebie

Currently...

August is upon us! (And there's just 4 more days to enter my giveaway!)

To celebrate August, I'm linking up with Farley on Oh Boy 4th Grade.  Super fun!

B2S Must Haves:

1. About two years ago, I saw Cara Carroll's post all about Image Stuff's Brag Tags.  I fell in LOVE.  I knew it would be a unique and fun way to motivate my kiddos! I ordered them last summer for the school year, and I was right.  My kiddos couldn't WAIT to earn brag tags for citizenship, academic challenges, and holidays. I even had a prize to purchase one with tickets! This has quickly become one of my yearly must-haves!

2. Labels.  Shipping labels, address labels.   They help me survive all those notebook and folder organizing.

3. I am waiting restlessly for my Erin Condren planner to arrive.  I broke down the other day and bought one. Yay! :)  Even though I know it doesn't ship until August 20th, I am dying to flip through those pages and stick my stickers on staff meeting days!

And a Back to School Night Freebie...

The other day, I linked up with First Grade Found Me's Back to School Linky Party.  In my post, I wrote about one of my favorite back to school books: The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds.

So I thought I'd offer a freebie showing what I do with it! This is a writing and art project to use after reading The Dot.  It's a fun way for your kiddos to express themselves, and it looks great on the wall on Back to School Night!

Students paint their own dot after the read-aloud.  Then they write about why they made the do the way they did.  It's really cute to see how they explain their artistic choices!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  So I made a sample so I could post one. Normally that's great, but this is so ugly!

Just know that I am not going into my classroom until Monday, so the resources I used to make it are er... limited.

I'm going to post it anyway, so we can all have a good laugh!  Note the pink and brown paint that I had leftover from a baby shower.  Just pathetic!  Whoever this "Sarah" is... she needs some art lessons! ;)

Here's a blank one as a saving grace:

I glue both pages to a 12x18 construction paper.

I promise when your kiddos make this, it will look MUCH cuter.  And as soon as my kiddos do it, I'll posted some better pictures!

There's also an orange dot in the freebie with the book title and author. I always like to hang that when I do an art project. :)

PS: I mentioned in my Currently that I'm loving my Ann Taylor Loft shorts.  If you're a teacher, you get 15% off ALL THE TIME!  Score!

  9. Hey You!

The lamination that you use with the personal laminator is WAY thicker than what they have at my school. Seems what our school purchases gets cheaper and cheaper each year - so cheap, that it ruins what I'm laminating more and more...it's so frustrating. You can find pouches for really good deals through amazon and I hear people also purchase them at Costco for really cheap too. It's super easy to use and really handy.
